Greens and Xenophon oppose Web Censorship

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2009/02/26/1235237810486.html

The Government's plan to introduce mandatory internet censorship has effectively been scuttled, following an independent senator's decision to join the Greens and Opposition in blocking any legislation required to get the scheme started.

You know, I think CP is probably the last thing on the government's mind with the whole web censorship initiative. They probably want this capability to monitor and block internet traffic as a way to control the memetic high ground which will become increasingly important in politics and national defense in the years to come.

Unfortunately, the people who are designing this scheme aren't very bright. I mean the United States designed echelon and pushed it through illegally years ago, and rely on good old fashioned men with guns to do the blocking and enforcing. It's not like it's new technology.

Stipulate that the people who *want* this scheme to go through are not the same people who got picked to *design* it.
